AIM News 11/2003 - Spiritual Nurturing Week 2003
Spiritual Nurturing Week 2003
by Erin Frank ('03)
The beginning of November was an awesome if not slightly stressful time. We began the month with a week of spiritual nurturing. Monday night was our all-night prayer session with our class. This is where we prayed for fields and teammate options and turned in our lists of top fields and people. Some people arrived that night knowing exactly what they were going to put down. Other people, after turning in their lists, cannot remember anything they put down. This night was really a test of our trust in God, just knowing that God will work everything out for His purposes and learning and striving to submit to His will.
After a day of rest we met and had a lesson taught by Jay Jarboe about fasting. This was such a blessing. As a relatively new Christian, I had heard about the practices of fasting but knew little about it. The class was very informative and good.
Throughout the week we all got to experience something called a prayer labyrinth. The labyrinth consisted of a series of small activities that helped us let the distractions of the world fall away so we could dwell with God and He could dwell within us. It was an incredibly spiritual experience for me, and I look forward to doing it again sometime.
